Should Wisconsin DNR attempt to manage cougars in the state?

040409_dsor_s414-wicougar120xCougars in Wisconsin. Cougars (mountain lions) were once native to Wisconsin, but they were extirpated in the late 19th Century. Last month, a group of hunters and DNR staff members treed and photographed a male cougar in Sawyer County. Attempts to capture and put a radio collar on the cat failed. Cougars are protected in Wisconsin. After that animal was seen and photographed by numerous people, DNR officials admitted that there are cougars in Wisconsin, something that a lot of people have known or suspected for some time.

Please give a comment as to… Why or why not?

NO! Because we already have enough problems with wolves. Why on earth would we want to start another whitetail management problem. The DNR already has enough wolves out there to discourage long time hunters from Deer Hunting due to reduced numbers and by further acerbating the problem would reduce the numbers even further.

Why not? They control everything any way. What’s the differance if the cougar is included .

no! they couldn’t manage just this one cougar, what would they do if they had two of them to chase? they denied cougars in wisconsin like the government denied ufos, now they want to manage them?

    No!
The DNR has done a poor job of managing bear, wolves and whitetails among other species what makes you think they could do any better with cougars. They (the DNR) have been a poor excuse for managing our resources in the state of wisconsin.
