DSORe Poll s451 INSTANT SURVEY:
Do you favor limiting the period for feeding deer for viewing purposes to the day after gun season through Labor Day?
Limit Recreational Feeding ..?

BACKGROUND:

State Sen. Jim Holperin has introduced a bill (SB558) that would allow recreational feeding of deer for viewing purposes from the end of the gun deer season until the following Labor Day. Currently, recreational feeding of deer is allowed year-round in most of the state, except in CWD zones and areas where there is a risk of CWD.

Current law further restricts feeding to sites within 50 yards of a business open to the public or an owner-occupied residence, if the site is not less than 100 yards from a roadway that has a posted speed limit of more than 45 miles per hour, if not more than two gallons of feed are present at the feeding site and if the feed does not contain any animal parts or byproducts.

Good questions on your informal surveys, Dan.

I think I missed voting on the scopes for blackpowder. Altho I don’t have a dog in the fight, since I’ve never hunted blackpowder, I’d vote yes.

Baiting or feeding deer for commercial or entertainment purposes does not comply with Leopold’s guideline, and it is harmful to wildlife and bad for hunting, in my opinion. And I cast my vote for that.
